Twenty One has something for everyone with the kitchen serving Hungarian specialities alongside traditional European and café dishes. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, light meals, kids meals and a delicious selection of cakes and coffee are always on offer. We are fully licensed with a wide selection of wine and alcoholic beverages.
Jansci (John) Schiffer moved to Sydney from Hungary in 1957. He was surprised that there were no outdoor dining options given the favourable climate. Seeing this opportunity, he imported one of the first Italian espresso machines and set up Twenty One in the then sleepy suburb of Double Bay.
The cafe was an instant success and the business flourished. It became a central meeting point for many of Sydney’s best known characters and families. Jansci is no longer with us but his legacy carries on through his son George and grandson Michael, who bring the same energy and warmth to the establishment.
Tucked away in the charming Sydney suburb of Double Bay, Twenty One is a family run Hungarian and European restaurant that first opened its doors in 1958. Old-world charm, warm service and authentic, home-style dishes combine to make Twenty One a favourite with locals and newcomers alike. People travel far and wide for our famous Schnitzels.
